‘Gutless’ closure upsets The former manager of Jean Jones in Richmond Mall is disgusted at the “gutless” behaviour of her employers after she and three staff lost their jobs when the national women’s clothing store chain went into liquidation on Friday. “We had no indication whatsoever that anything was going to happen,” Tanya Rich says. “The first thing we knew was when the receivers or liquidators came in and closed the store - the mall management didn’t even know. “Three guys just walked in and said we ‘had to close the store immediately’. The way this has been handled is disgusting - they are so gutless.” Tanya says she hasn’t

Drone gives stunning view above Richmond
When the fog rolled-in over Richmond late last month Barry Page thought it would be cool to “have a look”, so he launched his unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and took this stunning photo using a remotely-controlled camera. Barry, who has been “playing around” with UAVs, or drones as they are more commonly known, for the last 10 years says conditions for were perfect for flying and photography. So he flew his drone to a height of 120m, which is the legal limit, directly above his Shelbourne St home, pointed the in-flight camera towards Nelson and clicked the shutter. “The sky was perfectly clear above and around my house and all along the Richmond Hills but it was re-

high-resolution screen and it looked even better. So I had it printed on a large canvas and gifted it to my lovely wife Lynda for her 50th birthday.” Barry says the DJI Phantom 3 Advanced UAV he used to take the photo is lightyears ahead of the first home-made drones he flew a decade earlier. It has a number of advanced features including dual-GPS, an auto-return system and can be set to fly within specific heights. “When I first started building multirotor helicopters, there was only one place in the world you could buy one commercially and that was from Germany and they cost more than 9000 Euro. Eventually, China started producing them and the rest is history.”
